The Hocking River topped flood stage and fell through the upper valley from Rockbridge to Logan after midnight. Route 33 never blocked by water though a dip near Enterprise bridge ran a foot deep. Route 75 and Route 180 saw water and closures near South Perry and Oroville. Crops across river bottoms heavily damaged. WPA workers aided motorists, and a Rockbridge family evacuated as floodwaters rose. Ohio State extension warned late planting hindered by rain while wheat oats meadows and pastures benefited.

Foes Of Wagzge Hour Bill Work On Flexibility
In Columbus Ohio on May 24 AP report says Harry A Sparks, ousted highway engineer, testified in Common Pleas Judge Henry L Scarletts court about the hot mix program. Sparks claimed no hot mix plants have closed recently and noted 40 mixing plants exist in Ohio. He said contractors must produce about 15,000 tons annually to stay in business. Governor Davey praised the hot mix program as a great money saver in his radio address.

Jail Fugitive Captured After Hills Hideout Raid

Funeral plans for Paul Jonas of Murray City
Funeral services are set for Paul Jonas 25 of Murray City at Murray M. 5B Church on Wednesday. He died Saturday at Cherrington Hospital from injuries from a July 27 1937 auto crash near Obiston that left him paralyzed with a broken back. Also hurt were Conrad Martin 22 and Edson Jonas brother of the deceased. both recovered. Jonas leaves a widow and an infant daughter born after his hospital admission.
