John D. Rockefeller Sr. founder of the dollar dynasty died at his winter home The Casements in Ormond Beach Florida at 4:05 a.m. East Standard Time on Sunday ending a long life. The death, attributed to sclerotic myocarditis, comes 26 months before he would have turned 98. He had hoped to live to 100.

President Roosevelt sent a congressional message outlining wage and hour standards to fill NRA gaps. The plan covers unfair labor practices and aims to propose legislation in both houses with a second effort to regulate interstate commerce work hours. The NRA's invalidated act spurred this new push and a panel had urged splitting its functions.
Delmar Archer, 39, prepared to face second degree murder charges in the death of his step-father Dr Daniel W. Trout, 62, whose body was found in Stockport. Prosecutor Emmet Abel said charges follow Archer’s confession of striking the doctor with a fishing pole during a scuffle in a drinking bout.
Lakewood New Jersey May 24 AP A 30 room mansion once the Lakewood Country Club site became a summer home for John D. Rockefeller. The town and his household of 25 servants recalled his last birthday July 8 with a 97 candle cake, each slice shared including one for Rockefeller.
Ohio weekend tragedies claimed 27 lives, including 18 traffic deaths. Charles Gloeckner and his wife perished when their outboard boat capsized on Buckeye Lake near Newark. Others: Earl Schuler in the Scioto River at Portsmouth, Eugene Renfield in a Findlay airplane crash, Mrs. Sherburn in Columbus fire, and Mabel Wengel with Clarence Wickens in Washington County auto crash near Caldwell.
In Columbus Ohio the family of Virginia Dillon an 18 year old model found fatally wounded in her home refused to accept the coroner verdict of death by own action and believed police would uncover what happened. Funeral services are set for Tuesday with burial in Delaware. The coroner said he was certain she shot herself though unable to explain why.
Ideal late spring weather drew thousands to Hocking State Parks over the weekend. Automobiles filled parking at Rock House Old Man's Cave Cantwell Cliffs and Ash Cave as rangers aided traffic. Cedar Falls drew hundreds and a road project improved access ahead of a planned completion linking Route 56. School buses brought several hundred youths from Athens County schools.
In Cincinnati on May 24 AP reports the A F L executive council moved to expel all committee for industrial organization local branches from city central bodies. The council urged loyal unions to double monthly dues to one cent per member to fund the war against expansion of the CIO, estimating an extra $35,000 monthly.
Ida S. Allabaugh sues Henry C. Allabaugh for divorce on willful absence, seeks restoration of her maiden name Ida Smith. she and Henry married in 1897. The day prior, 75 year old Scott T. Whisler of Bluffton obtained a license to wed 72 year old Eliza J. Harris of Findlay.
More than 200 dollars taken from 13 confiscated slot machines was turned over to Hardin County and Kenton schools by city and county officials.
In Pittsburgh on May 24 AP reports the steel workers organizing committee hopeful of a peaceful settlement with Crucible Steel Company. The union official says Crucible will be offered a contract like United States Steel subsidiaries, granting bargaining rights for SWOC members only.
Sheriff Joe Farbearn and deputies thwarted a jail break attempt by three prisoners at Hocking County Jail. Forest Blue and Mike Magdos, recently jailed for a Price’s filling station holdup, and James Harrison, a drunken driver and Leavenworth parole violator, planned to use a wooden gun and a homemade blackjack hidden in clothing and bedding. The gun, crafted from a table brace with a spoon trigger guard and Bible-leather handle, resembled a real pistol, and the blackjack was built from a sock stuffed with a bar of soap.
Miss Anne Cutter, aunt of Mrs. Lindbergh, reports the Lindberghs in Kent welcomed a baby boy born May 12 during coronation night. The couple, returning from a ten week Europe and east tour, were at Longbarn Seven Oaks and not at Westminster Abbey for the coronation. Colonel Lindbergh remained at home.
Three Logan men attended a federal highway hearing in Elkins West Virginia on a proposed route from St Joseph Michigan to Richmond Virginia. The plan includes State Route 31 through Logan with officials Mayor Kenneth Fitzgerald Chamber of Commerce President Barton Hall and Resident Highway Engineer Boyd Wright representing three states.

Soviet pilot Sigmund Levaneffsky, trained in America, prepared a Douglas transport for a North Pole flight from Rudolf Island toward the United States. Stalin designated the mission to open a permanent polar base and establish a Moscow to San Francisco air link. Supply planes and scientific gear waited 560 miles from the Pole as the expedition drifted on an ice floe, with eleven explorers to establish a yearlong settlement before turnover.
