On Saturday morning a gigantic skyhook shaped cirrus cloud appeared in the northern heavens, stretching from the north toward the zenith and curving east by north. Hundreds watched in amazement as the icy filaments remained intact for over an hour before gradually dissipating by nine.

British Mosquito bombers hit Berlin for the third night in a row while trains and ships were targeted in France. American Fortresses bombed Wilhelmshaven and Emden as U boat bases, despite strong German defenses, with losses on both sides.
Boyd V Wright of Logan heads a committee named by Hocking Athens county civic and industrial leaders to contact the State Department of Public Works for a postwar plan for Southeastern Ohio. Other members include C D Shafer Nelsonville A C Gubitz Athens and Charles F Wallace Glouster. The regional Office of Price Administration announced that service personnel may not apply for War Ration Book No 3 due to possible reassignment. The Army and Navy will issue books as needed to prevent loss and abuse. Previous books were available to service members away from home, with No 3 expected to be issued next month and containing stamps for coffee and shoes.
Two year old Penelope Bates died after turning on hot water in a Lorain bathtub. Her mother Mrs Bates had briefly left the child unattended as Coroner C Wan investigated the fatal incident.
