Logan area residents will gain an extended summer recreation schedule led by City Recreation Director Dick Erb. The plan includes a Program of the Week, playground activities at Rachelmacher Park, free basketball camps for boys and girls, and a dress-up dog show, with pool season opening over Memorial Day weekend.
Coffman Stair Co. asks the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Ohio to transfer an injunctive and damage suit filed by Local 1279 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America. The action seeks 500000 in compensatory damages and 500000 in punitive damages for a contract dispute tied to plant operations and alleged labor disruption affecting commerce. A noon to 1 pm hearing in Hocking County Common Pleas on the union’s motion for a permanent injunction to keep Logan operations from closing before the three year contract expires is noted. The federal court serves 30 Ohio counties including Hocking, Franklin, and Licking.
Herschel Bensonhaver names a chamber committee to pursue new industry for Logan. Richard Hall will chair with Ken Dollison Ralph Moorehead Mayor Evans S Haid and Max Davidson as members. The panel will study land housing financing water sewers and zoning issues.

Logan High School prepares a senior banquet on Friday at 6 30 p m in the Hocking Valley Valley Motor Lodge Nelsonville with speeches and presentations followed by a Saturday prom in the Hilltop cafeteria from 8 p m to midnight with the band Shinola. The junior class raises 4200 for activities through dances and fundraisers and will host post prom at the Logan Armory from midnight to 4 a m with the Muff Brothers providing music.
Convicted assassin Sirhan Sirhan, serving life at Soledad Prison, asks to meet Los Angeles Supervisors Baxter Ward and Kenneth Hahn to discuss the RFK killing. Attorney Godfrey Isaac says Sirhan wants an open discussion, possibly arranged at Soledad. Hahn and Ward, leading voices on the board, indicated willingness to talk.
A season high of 90 degrees was recorded Tuesday afternoon in the Hocking Valley. It was 83 degrees at 11 a.m. today after an overnight low of 56 with partly cloudy skies. Forecasters predict more warm weather Thursday with 80s highs and 60s lows, and a 50 percent chance of rain tonight and 20 percent Thursday.
