A crowd of several thousand gathered Sunday for the American Legion parade linked to District Eight’s spring conference. Wellston Post 371 won $100 in drum and bugle corps competition with 88.5 points, Nelsonville Post 229 took $50 with 87.5, and Ironton Post 59 earned $40 with 74. Nelsonville High School band won Class B, Thornville High School in Class BB, and Logan Post 78/Logan High did not enter. State Commander James Suhr urged unity against subversive ideologies and highlighted child welfare efforts.
Shelby Conkey of New Pittsburgh returned home from Cherrington Hospital on Saturday after injuries from a collision involving a GC and O passenger train at Wrights Siding. His son William, also injured, had left the hospital earlier.

Logan's police department moves today from City Hall to remodeled rooms in the south half of the city fire house as part of a reorganization under Mayor Dallas Kinser. The change entails closer police and fire cooperation with firemen answering desk calls. police phone remains at 50. Assistant Fire Chief Gerald McLaughlin will join June 1 to complete the plan.

Paris in May reports the air ministry announced that 100 aircraft were being ordered from American companies to cover a shortfall caused by French industry failing to meet the ministry’s needs.
Passage of the flood control bill would authorize a dam on Clear Creek north of Rockbridge. Army engineers plan a concrete 85 ft high, 920 ft long dam for 1,390 acres flooded, 42,000 acre-feet capacity, within a 90 square mile drainage. Estimated dam cost 3.2 million, land 175 thousand, highway relocation 187 thousand. Located one mile from the Clear Creek and Hocking river junction.
David Baumgarten two year old son of Mr and Mrs Leon Baumgarten of Los Angeles was lost in Bear valley mountains for over a day. About 200 volunteers joined the search until the child was found by his father near the highway unharmed. Local rescue efforts and family relief followed the safe discovery.
Philadelphia May 16 AP extraordinary police precautions were prepared against irregularities as Pennsylvania votes tomorrow after a slam bang primary. Two voices urged observers from the U S Senate to join Philadelphia polls. Mayor S Davis Wilson, a Democratic senatorial hopeful, promised to protect citizens rights to vote without coercion or interference.
Postmaster General James A. Farley and Democratic National Committee chairman endorsed Tom Kennedy for governor and George H. Earle for senator in New York. He said the Pennsylvania rift within the party imperils November success and urged unity.

Two Springfield brothers, George Hinkle and Harold Hinkle, were held on highway robbery charges after abducting and robbing a man and woman in downtown Columbus. Victims Jack McDaniel and Clarice Clesco, both 24, were assaulted as they sat in a car near the Young Women’s Christian Association building. McDaniel’s car was stolen. he was robbed of $8. The elder Hinkle, injured with a fractured ankle, was guarded in a hospital, while the younger Hinkle was jailed. Police recaptured the car near West Jefferson. both suspects were later arrested.
A weekend toll of 13 traffic deaths in Ohio includes a mother and her baby. Beatrice Erdman, 26, died in a Toledo auto crash. A Caesarean birth delivered a baby boy weighing 2.5 pounds ten minutes after her death. the infant lived only one day.
At the Terminal Hotel in Atlanta a five story blaze killed 25 people and left at least a dozen injured with many missing. Fire Chief Parker called it the deadliest fire in the city’s history as rescue teams faced collapsing walls and delayed identifications.
Charles J. Stein aged 72, former Scripps-MaCrae treasurer and part owner of papers in St Paul Minneapolis and Omaha, was found shot to death near a tree by the Devilbise Co. Coroner Shapiro issued a verdict on the scene early today.
