Ford orders Marines to Thailand over Mayaguez crisis

The United States plans to fly about 1,000 Marines from Okinawa to Utapo air base in Thailand to back up warnings of serious consequences if Cambodia does not release the cargo ship Mayaguez and its crew. The Mayaguez was moved to Koh Tang under Cambodian escort, with U.S. warships ordered toward Cambodia.

The Ohio State Board of Education approved a vocational education plan projecting major job growth through 1980 in wholesale trade, health services, finance, insurance and real estate, with declines in agriculture. Courses include avionics, coal mining, international business, marine mechanics and telelectrical communications.

Thailand bars U S base use against Cambodia

Prime Minister Kukrit Pramoj announced Thailand will not allow the United States to use Thai air bases for military action against Cambodia. He cited any armed attempt to secure the return of an American merchant ship seized in the Gulf of Thailand.

Rain and hail hit Hocking Valley with cooler Logan readings

Heavy rain and large hail struck sections of the Hocking Valley on Monday. Logan saw about a quarter inch of rainfall as the day began with 61 degrees and 11 am. Forecast calls for sunny and warmer weather midweek with highs in the 70s and minimal rain chances.

The Hocking County Board of Revisions met to hear protests about the new real estate tax evaluation schedule that took effect January 1 1975. The board includes James McLain Leonard Myers and George Claker. 23 protests were filed by February 19 1975.

Hocking Leads State Wild Turkey Harvest in 1975

Hocking County topped all counties with 28 turkeys in 1975, a record 95 total in the season ending Saturday, a 35.2 percent rise from the prior mark. Vinton County was second with 18, Pike third with 11. Adams to Washington counties reported varying counts. No accidents or arrests were recorded. several hunters reported notable turkeys including a Laurel Two 23 pounder and a 20.34 pounder.

Mine Union Fights Suit

The United Mine Workers rested its case in a federal suit without witnesses. UMW attorney J Craig Kuhn argued the court lacks jurisdiction as four coal firms seek to hold the union financially responsible for wildcat strikes at 30 mines in Ohio and West Virginia lasting up to 44 days. The companies called 34 witnesses to prove the union bypassed grievance procedures.

Bank To Serve As General Tel Collection Site

General Telephone Co of Ohio says Citizens Bank of Logan at 188 W Main St is now a collection agency for telephone bill payments effective immediately. This follows the Logan office closure set for May 30. Customers may also mail payments in prepaid envelopes. Bremen collection is First Bremen Bank.
