Nelsonville City Council approves a 62 four lane bypass plan for U.S. 33 through the city after debate. Dissenting votes come from Reginah Levering and David Fraedrich who question a $50,000 funding and state responsibility.
Nelsonville police arrested Mark Williams, 21, of 222 Myers and Nelsonville, at 2 07 a m today inside the VFW hall following a pursuit and alleged disturbance conducted by officers.
MRS. HAZEL REED a former employee at the shoe factory, survived by a grandson and three great grandchildren, two brothers Arthur Glick of Logan and Jack Glick of Pennsylvania, and a sister Nellie Mitchell of Shawnee. Funeral from Leonard Luke Funeral Home Thursday at 10 am with burial in Fairview Cemetery on U.S. 33. Call 3 to 9 pm Wednesday. Also Rev Edith Rutter 57 of Buena Vista died Monday in Doctors Hospital North Columbus. She founded Blood Washed Church of the Living God in Buena Vista. Survived by husband Rev John M Rutter, two daughters, five sons, five stepsons, two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday 2 pm at Buena Vista Tabernacle. burial Bethany Cemetery. Visitation 7 to 9 pm tonight and anytime Wednesday at Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster. Body lies in state an hour before service. In other news Chief Dick Morgan reported a burglar alarm at the VFW. Patrolman Ray Kendall found Williams inside with items from the Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Co. office across the street. Break-in details include forced entry via a plate at a side door. Hocking Technical College crime lab assisting. Two counts of breaking and entering will be filed in Athens Municipal Court.
Lancaster singles club meets May 11 at 8 p.m. at 420 W Fair Ave. Hocking County Council on Aging gathers May 12 at 1 p.m. at Scenic Hills Senior Center. Logan DeMolay Club hosts a paper drive May 13 with pickup numbers 385-5245 385-4996 385-5026 and 380-9746. A youth group car wash starts at 10 a.m. at Rockbridge United Methodist Church parking lot.
A revival begins Friday at Bremen Holiness Wesleyan Church with 7 30 nightly services through Sunday May 22. Pleasant West Virginia speakers will present special music each night featuring musical bells the vibraharp and accordion. Everyone is welcome.
Fairfield County deputies report a hitchhiker from Old Man's Cave was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday. The victim named two men who picked him up and offered a tavern stop before the incident occurred around 3 20 a.m. in the county.
Hocking Conservancy District board met with the Conservancy Court to review Athens flood control work and maintenance needs. They outlined upcoming project improvements and provided updates on Logan and Nelsonville flood control efforts reviewed by engineers at Fort Belvoir. The session covered finances and future plans, with praise for smooth operation and assurances for continued oversight. James R. King Jr., Robert S. Mathews, Donald W. Bumgardner, John M. Haffner, and James F. Shumaker attended.

Vicky J. Woodgeard 26 of Creola Rt 1 sustained a head bump in a one car crash on Ohio 93 north of Mt Pleasant at 2 15 p m Monday. State patrol said her southbound craft left the road on a curve struck an embankment and she was taken to Berger Hospital Circleville by a passerby and released after treatment. A separate two car collision occurred on N Walnut Street near E Hunter Street at 6 35 a m today. Beverly A Hayden 19 Logan Rt 4 pulled from an alley and hit Tommy O Warren 22 of Hock Hocking Rd. A third report to the sheriff said Robert Barnett Rockbridge reported his 1976 Ford pickup was struck by an unidentified vehicle about 12 45 a m Monday.
The Marion School Parent Advisory Council will meet at 9 30 a m Thursday in the reading room. Mary Friel will report on Title 1 parent involvement from Columbus and Jo Ann Murtha will offer summer reading ideas. Parents may suggest next year’s programs. a coffee time precedes.
Principal George Stump announced 283 Logan High School seniors including Tri County Vocational students will hold a 9 a.m. graduation practice Thursday in the football stadium. If rain, practice moves to Friday at 9 a.m. Additional sessions are set for 9 a.m. May 24 and 25. Graduation is 7:30 p.m. Sunday May 29 at Bill Sauer Field.
John Sanderlin of 12475 Big Pine Rd reports his cabin was broken into between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday with entry through a broken back window. Stolen items include a coffee table two chairs a Homelite saw a bucksaw six pack of beer and three packages of cigarettes.
