An Agriculture Department forecast shows winter wheat yields near 1.01 billion bushels and combined winter and spring crops possibly reaching 1.09 billion, the largest since 1953. Ohio expects 28 bushels per acre and 42.7 million bushels harvested, while national yield, area, and nonharvested seed percentages are outlined.
Bright sun and warm weather continue as the Ohio River nears a 58 foot crest, highest for this late in the year. The water level has surpassed flood stage upstream with minimal damage locally, while many areas report evacuations and closures along the Kentucky and Ohio banks.
A weekend of fair and warmer weather is forecast for Hocking County providing relief from recent rain. Temperature reached 77 degrees by 11 a.m. today after a low of 38 overnight with Friday’s high at 70 by 2 30 p.m.

Anthony Wayne seek billions in value beyond the original two to three cents per acre for 126 million acres. Ohio holds 26 million acres with 117 million acres in overlapping claims. A mushroom hunter in Falls Township Hocking County gathered 31 pounds of yellow morels Friday and Saturday. Charles Schorr, with two grandchildren, found two large patches Friday evening and returned Saturday morning to collect more. They pulled 18 pounds Friday from one patch and 9 pounds Saturday, plus 4 more pounds from another elm site.

The Utilities Commission is asked to approve a merger of three Ohio phone firms to create General Telephone Co of Ohio with 179 920 customers. HAMILTON Ohio Louis Fritz a 56 year old Butler County jailer for 15 years was indicted for embezzling 8262.65 in fines and court costs paid at the county jail between 1951 and 1957. The shortage came to light after state examiners audited jail records and Sheriff Paul A Pell who took office in January 1957 ended the practice of accepting fines at the jail office Fritz and jail matron Mrs Fritz were discharged after his arrest.
A 15 year old Middletown girl is back with her parents as juvenile authorities continue an investigation into her alleged leadership of a male burglary and holdup gang. She and three male companions were arrested near Miamisburg Monday night in connection with a series of holdups and burglaries in the area. Two of the men claim the girl planned and directed the crimes.
Ohio State University trustees approved modest tuition increases for the coming academic year. The largest raise, 15 dollars per quarter, will lift most students from 75 to 90 dollars, with other boosts of 23 13 and 18 dollars for specific programs and schools such as pharmacy and optometry.
The FBI arrested 35 year old Charles Robert O Malley as one of two men who robbed the Scioto Bank in Commercial Point Pickaway County. About 3900 was taken Tuesday and 1600 was recovered. He awaits a preliminary hearing next week in Columbus jail on 25000 bond. O Malley had earlier been paroled in 1955 after robbing New Holland Bank in 1947 and was linked to a 1956 false kidnapping report by his wife.
Albert Seabright, Hocking County engineer, specifies his duties include surveys when directed by commissioners. The board ordered a survey of the 400 acre infirmary farm on Rt 328 in three plots by June 20 and considers using sale funds for a courthouse roof.
NLRB examiner Wallace E. Royster found Eldora Hunsaker was discharged not for talking but for supporting the International Ladies Garment Workers Union AFL CIO. He recommended immediate reemployment and back pay from Nov 27 1957.
