Josef Cardinal Mindszenty former primate of Hungary and a central figure in East West tension died in Vienna at age 83. A longtime enemy of communism he spent 23 years in prison or as a refugee in the U S mission in Budapest before moving to Rome and finally Vienna in 1971. He remained a symbol of resistance to Nazi and Communist tyranny throughout his life.
