The Ohio Senate approved a bill to permit the governor to file removal complaints against sheriffs and prosecutors, sending the measure to Dr. Frank J. Lausche to become law 90 days after his signature. The same session advanced a gambling nuisance padlocking bill, while a slot machine felony bill stalled amid a bare quorum and tense votes.
United States presses for a global embargo on strategic war materials and atomic bomb supplies against Peiping at a U N committee behind closed doors. Britain and France reportedly hold back, as the committee on additional measures meets.
The Ohio House voted 118 to 4 to raise hunting and fishing licenses to $2 per year. The bill moves to the Senate for further action.
Governor Frank J. Lausche directed Ottawa County sheriff Merlin Budd and prosecutor Myron A. Rosentreter to halt slot machine operations in Port Clinton citing reports of about 300 machines openly exhibited and played. The telegram urged prompt action to suppress the unlawful condition and end the exhibition.
Allied tank infantry patrols north and east of Seoul clashed with Chinese Reds 10 miles north of the capital. One patrol entered Uijongbu, another retrieved two tanks, and a two hour fight east-northeast of Seoul killed an estimated 200 Reds with 21 taken prisoner. A separate six hour skirmish southeast of Chunchon left two thirds of Reds dead on a hill. Air strikes and ground actions yielded unusually low casualties. intelligence warned of three Communist divisions massing to strike Seoul from the northwest.
A coalition of House Republicans and southern Democrats moves to deny funds for Dean Acheson after June 30 or block the 1952 State Department budget until he resigns or is replaced. Leaders foresee strong House support, with critics like Rep. Lawrence H. Smith and Rep. Rooney warning of a sizable majority against Acheson.
In Lenoir North Carolina May 3 an unemployed sawmill worker Ralph Gragg 34 killed his eight children ages 3 to 15 then died in a public safety item incident at their Collettsville area home ten miles north of Lenoir Coroner Marshall Kincaid said no inquest would be held Sheriff George D Greeg noted Mrs Gragg had been living away from the family for a month Neighbors reported a flash of light at about 815 pm Gragg's body lay in a hallway beside a five gallon can and a public safety item The children named Katherine 15 Christine 13 Jimmy 10 Peggy 9 Carolyn 7 Paul Edward 6 Judy 4 and Rebecca 3 had skull fractures and were found in a six room frame house

Rev A N Grueser officiated with music by Mrs Walter Leonard and Mrs George Jurgensmier. organist Carl Spence. Pallbearers named James Bingham Ray Garverick McKinley Mauk Hugh Thomas James B King and Washington Bowers Sr burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
In Korea near U.S. 7th Division on May 3 a colonel asks a sergeant about meals. James Holler of Lee's Summit, Missouri, replies he is the mess sergeant and that he is getting enough to eat, answering with rigid attention and a crisp yes.
Admiral William F. Halsey Jr retired is discharged from Roosevelt Hospital after influenza treatment. He fell ill April 19 while en route to welcome General MacArthur on his arrival in New York City.

Thomas Crutcher of Wyandotte Michigan former Logan resident died suddenly of a heart attack in Wyandotte at his daughter Mrs William Harper home. He leaves his wife Doris Woods a daughter Marie two other daughters three grandchildren and several siblings and half siblings.
Temperatures in Hocking County fell below 80 degrees today for the first time in nearly a week thanks to overnight and morning showers. At noon the reading was 75 with a low of 58 noted last night, and yesterday’s high reached 85 at 4 PM. Little change is expected tomorrow.
A section of the public parking lot in Pomeroy Ohio slid into the Ohio River last night. The condemned 12 by 50 foot portion had not been in use and no injuries were reported.
Winona National Bank was robbed for the third time in six months as two masked bandits armed with a shotgun and pistol forced cashier J. R. Hisey to surrender $15,546 yesterday. Police pursued leads but no arrests were reported.
Electric Auto-Lite Co. said it will close its four plants in Toledo until Monday due to lack of raw materials. About 6,000 employees are affected.
General MacArthur testified that the joint chiefs recommended on January 12 a naval blockade of Red China air operations over Manchuria and supply support for Chinese Nationalists. He said they were overruled by President Truman or Defense Secretary Marshall, and that the chiefs had presented these exact recommendations to the secretary of defense for Korea war prosecution. He warned a few ground troops could end the Korea fighting with air and naval backing, and cited continued economic blockade and coastal air reconnaissance removal of restrictions. He added Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist forces on Formosa numbered about 600,000 troops.
Washington May 3 The newly published account of the Wake Island talks between President Truman and General MacArthur leaves unsettled what assurance the general gave about Chinese Red intervention in Korea. MacArthur said very little about interference by China or the Soviets and questioned the success if intervention occurred. A 5000 word transcript summary was released by the Senate committee on the eve of a closed inquiry into MacArthur and Far East policy. Maj. Gen. Courtney Whitney said the document has little bearing on current Korea events and noted notes were covert at the October 15 conference.
City police reported a burglary at the Robert Gano home 311 Warner Avenue last evening. Entry occurred between 6 15 and 8 10 PM. Drawers were dumped and a living room desk drawer opened. Stolen items include two necklace sets, two earring sets, a Sheaffer pen and a carton of cigarettes.
Eight Perrysburg high school juniors traveled to Washington for a three day visit and met First Lady Mrs. Bess Truman at Blair House. Student Mariann Logee had written to request the audience on a hunch, and Edith Helm, the First Lady's social secretary, arranged the appointment. The group described Mrs. Truman as very nice and gracious before returning home.
New York May 3 Robert A Vogeler will enter Bethesda Naval Hospital today to recover from 17 months in a Hungarian prison cell. The 39 year old former business executive held a news conference but did not discuss his arrest or imprisonment as a reputed spy. He said he would be able to offer more details after his condition improves.
