Atty. Gen. Herbert S. Duffy's grand jury probe into alleged solicitations by classified state employees for a campaign fund moved ahead on two fronts. The official said he is convinced solicitations were made and a lawyer would discuss the situation in a radio address.
Ohio Democratic candidate Charles Sawyer announced a five station radio network program to address reports that state employees were solicited for contributions to Gov. Martin L. Davey’s campaign. The probe, led by Hamilton County and Franklin County authorities, involves liquor department staff and civil service workers with subpoenas issued for more witnesses.
Columbia trustees honor Canadian Edmonton Journal and 96 provincial papers for defending press freedom amid Alberta Press Act review. Regular prizes go to Bismarck Tribune reporter Raymond Springle, Arthur Krock, W. W. Waymack, Vaughn Shoemaker. Thornton Wilder and Marquis James cited in letters.

Cleveland investigators obtained a tangible lead in the case of the 11th victim of the torso killer. Fragments of the woman's trunk thighs and right foot were recovered from the Cuyahoga river. A previously retrieved lower left leg linked to the same body, while the head remains missing. The victim is described as a white woman 25 to 30, about 5'5" tall, 115 pounds, with a Shaped abdominal scar and a 5 or 5 4 foot size. She had been a mother.
In New York on May 3, two firemen were killed and five others hurt when responding to alarms crashed at a street intersection in the Bronx. The dead include a captain and another crewman, with the collision drawing swift city response and investigations.
Final preparations for the execution of Anna Marie Hahn in Cincinnati are shown as the first woman to die in the state electric chair. The 31 year old German American mother of a 12 year old son was convicted of poisoning Jacob Wagner for his money and accused in five other deaths.

Mrs Ella Brewer 52, sister in law of J W Coleman Hocking County schools chief, believed near death after a hammer attack that killed Mrs Lida Priest 70 in the Priest home. Suspect Arthur McKibben 54, Brewer’s brother in law, fled. weapon found outside the South Side industrial area residence.

The New York Central railroad asked the State Utilities Commission for permission to convert its Tropic station in Perry County from agency to non agency status. The commission denied Baltimore and Ohio’s request to abandon its Guysville station in Athens County.
Logan prepares a luncheon and reception for the Blue and Gray Trail Caravan traveling from Richmond Virginia to Benton Harbor Michigan along Federal Route 33. The event at the Masonic club rooms at 12 30 P M will cost 75 cents. Dr Walter E Brehm heads local plans as about 40 motor caravan members pass through. The group will depart Logan at 2 P M for Lancaster and Columbus with escorts for four Queens.
