Senate near miss blocks veto on oil price controls
In a 47 to 36 vote the Senate approved a bill to give Congress power to veto presidential moves on oil price controls but fell nine votes short of a two thirds override. Absent a shift, Ford could lift controls costing about 22.3 billion yearly and add a 2 dollar tariff on oil imports, raising fuel bills by roughly 5.4 billion annually. The split reflects a clash between Ford energy plans and Democratic concerns over inflation and imports.

West Receives Wright State Theatre Award
