Californians endure earthquake scare with reports of panic phone calls and letters about prep. Officials note anxiety among teachers and the public while Caltech and USGS say no precise forecast exists and major quakes remain possible this century.
U S military analysts report heavy losses and allied blocking actions force Viet Cong and North Vietnamese to reassess their five week old spring offensive. In March the enemy lost over 6 000 men in the 3rd Corps area and may limit April actions to rockets and mortars while regrouping.
Washington AP Pentagon officers say the United States has suffered little military impact from the bombing halt against North Vietnam begun one year ago. They note Hanoi gained flexibility and continues similar troop levels around 100,000, with DMZ risk not placing U S forces in serious jeopardy while air pressure reduced.
UC seismograph in Berkeley detected a 6.5 magnitude earthquake Sunday night near the southwest coast of Turkey by the Sea of Crete. The US center placed the epicenter about 275 miles southwest of Ankara and 200 miles from Alasehir, where last week’s quake killed at least 50 people.

Defense Minister Dayan warned the summer could be critical due to pressure on Egypt to renew conflict.
The Tri-County Joint Vocational School marked its first graduation as 11 students completed a 22 week manpower development program. The course combined ten weeks of adult basic education with two weeks of factory tours and twelve weeks of on the job training at Ohio University and Southeast Ohio Mental Health Center. Several graduates gained significant academic improvement and many will seek high school equivalency tests while potential jobs await based on satisfactory training.
A Chillicothe Ohio Marine served as pallbearer for President Eisenhower at the National Cathedral. Marine Cpl James Allen Shope, stationed at the Marine Barracks in Washington, carried the casket.
French President Charles de Gaulle met President Nixon at the White House in a courtesy call during his U S trip to attend funeral services for a World War II comrade in arms. Eisenhower had previously said he would return for a formal visit.
Riverside Hospital officials in Columbus report that famed gangland slayer Thomas Yonnie Licavoli remains in critical condition after suffering a heart attack Friday at the Ohio Penitentiary where he has served 35 years.
Eisenhower's hometown Abilene Kansas expects 50 000 to 100 000 visitors for the funeral. Local officials say polling places stay open for elections but two are preempted for Army use. Residents open homes and breakfast to strangers while hotels fill and translators offer aid.
