John A. Smith 83 retired state employee and former Logan mayor died at 10 A M at his home 86 West Hunter Street after a monthlong illness. Native of Logan he was admitted to the bar in 1891 and served as mayor from 1896 for four years. He later worked in state food and dairy and as assistant corporation advisor in the secretary of state office for 27 years. He and his wife Bertha McCray returned to Logan in 1946 after retirement.
