Hartman Charged With Theft In Office By Grand Jury
A Hocking County grand jury returned a secret indictment against former sheriff Paul E. Hartman for theft in office. The counts allege Hartman used county funds to purchase a gas range a refrigerator two air conditioners an upright freezer and other property on or about April 19 1975. Investigator Mike Brown said the inquiry began in January 1977 with warrant showing further evidence and cooperation from Sheriff Hap Thrush and Logan Police. The investigation continues with focus on misused county money.

About 2,000 Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Co customers lost power after a beech tree fell on a high voltage line near Lick Run Hill in East Clayton. The resulting fire burned eight acres. a four man Forest Service crew and area volunteers fought it, with additional aid from local fire departments.

KLM jet blamed in Tenerife air disaster details
