Anchorage AP reports Civil Defense lists 21 dead 83 missing and 55 injured after Friday's Alaska earthquake. If most presumed dead are lost to sea, total toll could exceed 100. Previously about 70 were listed as casualties.
Brazil's Communist led labor federation warned of a general strike and other measures if conservative military leaders try to oust President Joao Goulart. Sailors and other unions faced repression as tensions rose over reforms and a challenged congress amid navy mutinies and rightist insinuations.
Logan high school graduate Robert D. Dennis, personnel man third class USN, was selected Sailor of the Month aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt for reliability initiative and professional performance. Dennis serves as USF I interviewer and shipboard instructor aiding crew education and adjustment to life at sea.

Two Nelsonville men escaped injury when their Piper Tripacer flipped onto its back after the nose landing wheel collapsed at Diamond Airport at 2 p.m. Sunday. Pilot William L. Barber and passenger Floyd Barber, co-owners, were practicing crosswind landings when the mishap occurred. state patrol said the plane was heavily damaged.
Treasurer Ralph Moorhead reminds Hocking County property owners that Tuesday is the final day to pay the first half real estate taxes without a 10 percent penalty.
The jury is seated in the second degree manslaughter trial of William Jasper Jr. 19 Lancaster. Deputy Sheriff Ed Smith testified as a state witness, while defense attorney E R Lentz cross examined. The case involves the December 12 collision on Rt 33 near Logan that killed Charles T Tribe 58 of Athens.
In Richmond on a Sunday morning a stranger approached H F Sharp and claimed to be the Easter bunny. Sharp replied that he was Santa Claus and the man slipped a one dollar bill into Sharp's pocket before wandering off.
About 600 children joined the Logan Kiwanis Club Easter egg hunt at Kachelmacher Park on Sunday. It was the largest turnout in years with 400 candy eggs, 143 numbered for extra prizes. Nearly 500 ice cream bars were handed out after the hunt. Three hundred candy sacks were available for kids who did not find eggs.
General Douglas MacArthur remained in critical condition at Walter Reed Hospital as doctors reported a grave kidney issue and a recurrence of esophageal bleeding. He faces his third major operation in 24 days, attached to life support with sedation, IV fluids, blood transfusions, and oxygen as needed.
Two Ohio men are killed by tidal waves from the Alaska earthquake. Air Force sergeant Donald McClure, 33, of Akron area ties, was swept from a Klamath River fishing spot. Coast Guard man Frank Reed of Olmstead Township washed out at Kayak Island southeast of Anchorage.
In Columbus Ohio North American Aviation plans to cut as many as 2500 workers in six months. On Friday 735 shop workers and 35 office employees were laid off.
Former astronaut John H. Glenn Jr withdraws from the Ohio Senate race claiming illness and inability to campaign. He will stay in the Marine Corps until fully recovered after a Feb. 26 fall damaged his balance and left him hospitalized.
Senator Glenn remains in office after a medical setback and will not retire on April 1 as required by the Marine Corps. Had he retired May 1 he could campaign only four days before the Ohio primary on May 5. Incumbent Sen. Stephen M. Young wishes him a fast recovery and urges Democrats to stay united.
A world wide summit conference of nonaligned nations is scheduled in Cairo during the first week of October.
