One of two London prison farm escapees remained free but Everett Cartwright 26 of Waverly was hospitalized with shotgun wounds in the neck and back after Sheriff Gorman F. Clark and officers from Pike and Highland Counties surprised the convicts at Latham between Waverly and Hillsboro. Harold Kinsley 28 of died escaped Saturday night. The pair refused to surrender prompting the exchange of gunfire.
A 50 foot rock slide of several tons threatened multiple houses in Pomeroy as geologists linked the movement to recent Ohio River flooding. The incident follows earlier hazards that imperiled the Meigs County courthouse, attributed to flood activity.

Cleveland authorities were asked to assist in locating a Belmont County construction worker sought for questioning in the shotgun slaying of Mrs. Dueber S. Cable. Sheriff Duff said the man appeared in St Clairsville on March 12 with a new car and money, making remarks about the case before leaving for Cleveland.

He suffered a broken back and possible lifelong paralysis. doctors fear he may not survive. Woods described his steps off backward and how he braced for impact before the plunge in a stunt exceeding the legendary 135 foot Brodie jump.
Ohio lawmakers debated relief legislation with a county tax bill tied to the two year indigent program. Senator Harold Nichols proposed $4 million in outright aid to counties this year plus another $4 million contingent on matching grants and a $1 million adjustment fund. Distribution would use a formula based on last year's relief expenditures and population.
Frank Riffle aged push cart man died this afternoon after a heart attack outside Wonn's Grocery on West Hunter Street around 2 PM. Passersby found him near his cart filled with newspapers. Dr. Floyd Beougher responded, but he died moments later. Coroner Vance Brian ruled natural causes with heart failure. The body went to Roberts Funeral Home awaiting relatives' instructions. Riffle resided between Logan and Enterprise.

Wheeler would empower Congress to override Supreme Court decisions by two thirds and O Mahoney would require two thirds of the court to invalidate a law.
Experts linked the New London explosion to accumulated gas and ordered inspections of rural East Texas schools. Authorities reported another leak at the Carlisle school, with gas escaping at 720 cubic feet per day, prompting safety checks and warnings of potential ignition sources.

In New York on March 23 AP reports Roland Fox four days old weighing one pounds three quarters with a slim chance of survival. Dr. Benjamin Van Campen said the baby, son of Mr and Mrs Paul R Fox, probably will pull through.

Newton H. Fairbanks 77, of Springfield Ohio and Clark County, died after a ten day illness from a heart ailment. He served a second term in the Ohio House and was longtime chair of the State Republican Committee. He was brother of late Charles Fairbanks vice president under Theodore Roosevelt.
In Cincinnati on March 23 AP reports United States Marshal Kenneth Kerr aims to return to his desk and saddle horses after surgery to remove two goitres. He is to leave hospital in about three weeks and convalesce at his Lancaster home, with 25 horses on his Blue Grass farm and plans to see newborn colts next week. Kerr is publisher of the Logan Daily News.
