Residents urged state hearing on Laurelville charter revocation

About 85 Laurelville district residents urged the county school board to request a state hearing on revoking Laurelville and Starr-Washington charters. Officials noted state standards gaps, bus impacts, and no local power to force action, while petitions circulated with 386 signatures.

Greg Smith Receives Coast Guard Academy Appointment

Greg D. Smith, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Smith of 876 James Rd, has been named a cadet in the Class of 1976 at the U. S. Coast Guard Academy in New London Connecticut. He was selected from about 8 000 applicants after written tests physicals and interviews. He will report June 26 at the academy with a five year service obligation. He is Logan High School senior and a standout athlete earning All Southeastern Ohio League football honors and AP All- Ohio third team in 1971. He also plays basketball and is expected to be the top pitcher for the Chief tain mound this spring. He ranks ninth in a class of 250 and is active in National Honor Society Key Club and ecology club. He attends First Baptist Church. His older brother Tim is a U S Air Force officer attending missile school at Vandenberg AFB California. Tim is married to Pam Shuttleworth of Enterprise California.

Red Rockets devastate Phnom Penh city center

Supreme Court strikes down Tennessee voting residence rule

The Supreme Court by a 6 to 1 vote invalidated Tennessee's one-year residency requirement for voting in state and congressional elections. Justice Marshall wrote the opinion, ruling the barrier infringed travel and residence rights. Chief Justice Burger dissented. Marshall suggested a 30 day period might be acceptable.

Ticket Day Set for Hocking Valley Variety Show

Big Haul Of Pot Grabbed At Chillicothe

Federal, state and local agents seized about 1 400 pounds of marijuana near Ross County Airport in Chillicothe. Two Ft. Lauderdale men, Dennis Ray Stanley and Joseph Henry Casanelli, were arrested for marijuana for sale and faced arraignment in Chillicothe. authorities indicated more charges and arrests may follow.

Greek Regent Fired By Junta Shifts Power To Papadopoulos

The Greek junta dismissed crown regent and elevated Premier George Papadopoulos to rule both royal powers and the premiership. Papadopoulos now heads the government and holds the royal authority after Crown Regent and Gen George Zoitakis were sidelined. Zoitakis was ousted for blocking a cabinet draft to expand security forces and the fire department. This marks the first major split among the military leaders since the 1967 coup.

Four of 25 Escapees Back In Custody In Cincinnati

Four of the 25 Hamilton County jail escapees are recaptured, including one woman who surrendered. The FBI was asked to aid the search as officers detained two more inside the jail. the break involved a trusty with a .32 caliber pistol and led to hostage briefings and multiple robberies nearby.

75-Year-Old Woman Slain In Fairfield County Home

Fairfield County sheriff investigates the killing of 75 year old Mary Ethel Turner at her home three miles southeast of Lancaster. She was found bound and murdered with a large butcher knife after a suspected sexual assault. A suspect was held for questioning and later released as investigators seek further clues. Local relatives include Miss Diana Starcher and Mrs. Fred Starcher. Time of assault estimated about 10 30 p m Sunday based on clock stopped at scene.

Pleasant spring conditions prevailed in much of the country but Houston faced 7 inches of rain through Monday night. The Hocking Valley saw 70 degrees at 11 am and a Monday high of 69 with a 35 degree overnight low. Wednesday warnings predict mostly cloudy cooler weather and possible showers.

May Opening Sought for Old Man's Cave Lodge Lease

Inmates Strike Continues At Ohio And Indiana Prisons
