Attendance in Paris was halted as Fascists and Communists clashed violently. Six people died and more than 459 were injured, including Blum's secretary Andre Blumel who sped to the scene seeking calm.
In Columbus Ohio on March 18 AP two national guard officers pursued Gov Martin L Davey to Cincinnati to obtain his signature on a 2 million dollar relief bill. Ten minutes before the bill reached his office he left to speak elsewhere. Capt Henry Smith and Lieut Joseph Goternath tracked him to a Cincinnati hotel where he signed a measure requiring hunters to wear license tags on their backs. The bill was sponsored by Rep Frank Grubbs of Fayette.
Detroit March 18 a civic board to conciliate labor disputes emerged from a Gov. Frank Murphy conference. The voluntary board aims to mediate and arbitrate employer employee differences in Chrysler plants and other motor city conflicts. Fr. Frederick Seidenburg was named chairman and will confer with Mayor Frank Couzens.
The Willys-Overland plant in Toledo is closed until Monday morning due to a temporary shortage of materials from Detroit. The facility employs 4,200 workers and President David R. Wilson stated that necessary parts are being moved to the plant and all employees should report at the usual time on Monday.
Union match workers in suburban Wadsworth vote to return to work at the Ohio Match Co plant where 750 were idle since March 3. A hearing was set in Warren on the Ohio Leather Co suit to evict 600 siteowners from its Girard plant, with Judge Lynn Griffith scheduling the injunction hearing for this afternoon.
The King's proctor seeks guidance to move Mrs. Wallis Simpson toward a final divorce decree. A court entry shows an undefended Simpson case hearing set for 10:30 AM. The routine auto decree date would have been April 27 after the Nisi decree issued October 27, 1936.

Dr. D. O. Walker aged 47, former pastor, was inaugurated as the tenth president of Wilberforce University in Xenia Ohio, succeeding Dr. R. R. Wright. The ceremony marked a new era for the historic African American school.

Olney, Illinois, March 18 AP. Sylvester Plumlee, 64, a WPA worker with 14 marriages to his credit, wed Lena Wayman, 69, of Evansville Indiana, in a tar-papered one-room shanty. It was Plumlee’s 11th wife and Mrs. Plumlee’s third marriage.
Spanish government troops detonated a mine beneath an insurgent held clinical hospital in Madrid's university suburb today, triggering fierce fighting and bombardment. Heavy artillery from both sides pounded the area, with big shells striking the city and wounding several people.
In Tacoma Washington a man identified as James Merritt Arthur shot his wife Anna 40 and daughters Mary Ann 15 and Janet 8 after school, then washed the bodies and called a hearse before shooting himself. Deputy Milone labeled the case as carefully executed slayings and death by own action.
