Logan Temperature Dips Below Zero

A cold snap lowered Logan temperatures to one below zero after a six inch snowfall. State and county crews treated icy roads while mph milder weather was forecast for Sunday. Accidents were reported on Rt 33 near Diamond and south of Lancaster with minor damage and no injuries.

Banks In Ohio to Receive Tax Refunds After Supreme Court Ruling

Ohio Tax Commissioner Stanley Bowers announced refunds due banks and savings and loan companies following a Supreme Court decision. The ruling allows deduction of federal securities from intangible taxes, prompting abatements totaling 12.36 million dollars for 1947 through 1955.

Senate delays final decision on farm bill amid amendments

The Senate recessed for St. Patrick's Day after nine hours of wrangling on the omnibus farm bill. An amendment was approved to provide 500 million dollars for federal purchases of beef, pork and other perishable farm products, up from 250 million. The bill could add up to 5 billion to farmers' income this year as about 60 amendments remain.

Mrs Daisy Armstrong of Laurelville died about 7 30 a m today in Hocking Valley Hospital aged 77. Trade Club Board Meets City Officials

Logan Trade Club directors met Mayor Francis Myers and a City Council delegation to discuss the city financial crisis and a proposed two mill levy to be voted in the May primary. The group will continue the discussion next week. They approved 1956 committees with chairmen including R. B. Perkins and Delbert Marstiller.

Janowicz Freed by Columbus Jury

Columbus Ohio Vice Janowicz Washington Redskins player and former Ohio State All American is found innocent of resisting arrest stemming from a Feb 5 scuffle. A municipal court jury acquitted Janowicz and three companions after officers investigated a broken restaurant window while Janowicz was a guest. The judge instructed that an officer may be resisted if excess force is used.
