Miracle Avoids Injury In Oklahoma City Truck Train Crash

Lavada Fern Miracle, 34, of Midwest City drove a pickup to University Hospital after a Rock Island freight train collided with her vehicle 22 miles east of Oklahoma City. Troopers said she was not seriously injured and called the outcome a miracle.

Westinghouse Electric Corp officials prepared for a possible call to Washington to resume talks to end the walkout of 55,000 workers. No word from IUE president James B Carey or the Mediation Service as negotiations stalled after union rejection of a government plan. The plan proposed a five year contract with annual boosts and benefits. wages averaged 2.10 per hour under the expiring agreement.

Electric Co-Op In Hocking County Gets Rural Loan

A Rural Electrification Administration loan of 250000 was granted Saturday to an electric cooperative serving 1500 customers in Hocking County. Funds will build a substation near Darbyville in Pickaway County and extend lines for about 675 new rural consumers in Pickaway and Ross counties. Lines were energized in 1937.

Alabama Expels Rioting Student After Campus Violence

University of Alabama expelled G Leonard Wilson, 20, of Selma, for his role in rioting that drove Autherine Lucy from campus. Lucy was expelled earlier for alleged conspiracy charges later withdrawn. Three other students withdrew from school during the probe and may not return unless cleared.

Driver Killed Walking. Driver Held in County Jail

James Clarence Stump, 55, of near South Perry, was killed instantly at 7:15 p.m. Sunday when struck by a car on Rt. 180 near Wagner Road. Lloyd Hedges, 25, Kingston Rt. 2, driver of the car, was held in the county jail for questioning by Prosecutor Fred Murray. The coroner cited a compound skull fracture as the cause. Prosecutor Murray indicated possible charges after further inquiry.
