Los Angeles Faces Third Slayings In Two Months
Los Angeles sheriff's office booked two men on suspicion of murder after fingerprints identified the second of two women found slain yesterday. Mae Lorena Preston, 46, of Bellflower, previously known as Mae Lorena Lund, was killed with injuries suggesting she was murdered in bed and moved to river bottoms. The other victim, Evelyn Winters, 42, a former film studio secretary, was found near freight cars in a derelict area. A third suspect, George Franklin Wickliffe, 28, was booked on suspicion of murder though detectives doubt involvement. Authorities continue search for the victims linked to the Black Dahlia case and Jeanne T. French.

Safe Cracker Is Arraigned In New Lexington

Mother Tramples Infant Daughter in Youngstown
In Youngstown Ohio on March 19 1944 a 35 year old woman was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to trample her four month old daughter to death citing too many children. The infant was reported in fair condition with possible internal injuries. A 14 year old daughter said the mother asked for help to kill the baby before jumping on the infant and the child was rushed to a relative’s home and police notified.
