Columbus Ohio March 9 AP tremendous pressure to relax regulations governing commercial fishing on Lake Erie reported today as a 1 000 000 year industry prepared to resume activities March 15. Conservation commissioner Lawrence Wooddell said legislators chambers of commerce businessmen and fishermen's organizations want gill nets with mesh smaller than the 2 7 8 inches required. Wooddell, at war with Lake Erie fishermen since taking office three years ago, said they complained that his division wrecks their business with net restrictions reducing the catch. They are putting themselves out of business he declared. Several fishing concerns have gone bankrupt in the last few years and they all will be out of business some day if they don't help protect the fish. He asserted the fish in Lake Erie were being depleted rapidly by the use of small mesh nets in which fish are caught before they have a chance to spawn.
