Logan woke to a stronger tremor than the first, felt around 12:45 a.m. lasting about 30 seconds, with rumbling heard by some. No widespread damage was reported locally, though in Columbus a former resident’s home sustained mortar damage in a chimney at 1177 W. Fifth Ave.
Washington march 6 officials expect president roosevelt to argue tonight that his court reform plan is the only practical remedy for a grave national crisis. the radio fireside chat will be at 10 30 p m est as opponents prepare senate hearings and strategize with farm religious and liberal leaders to counter administration testimony.
Postmaster General Farley accused opponents of President Roosevelt's court reorganization proposal of straining at a gnat and cited ample precedent for a change in the judicial system. The remarks were delivered in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on March 9, with the session continued on page 2.

Albemarle County grand jury indicted Dr. R. G. Miller a Charlottesville dentist on murder charges over the death of Cleo Sprouse 18 of Charlottesville High School. Sheriff J Mason Smith said Miller stated the girl died in a car while he used chloroform before a planned abortion.
Monts France March 9 AP A large house party at a Touraine chateau awaited the arrival of Wallis Warfield Simpson and her Riviera friends Mr and Mrs Herman L Rogers.
Pittsburgh tale reports 80 year old mint peddler Peter Liebach found beaten and strangled in a cliffside two room shack. Autopsy shows he died from choking blood and facial injuries. Guardian Colonial Trust says he had a $50,000 trust. he sold mint to saloon keepers.
Widespread tremors struck Ohio for a second time in a week, waking residents from Columbus to Cincinnati. Seismologists linked the quakes to upthrust rock in the northwest Ohio glacial region, with damage from toppled chimneys and rattled buildings including the state capitol rotunda and Frigidaire plant in Dayton.

He suggests the ship may not have sunk and its $2,700,000 munitions cargo could be in insurgent hands.
London dispatch reports Spanish officials seek the fate of the Mar Canta Brico crew and passengers, including two Americans, after insurgent cruiser Canarias opened fire in the Bay of Biscay. The munition laden freighter reportedly was picked up by the Canarias as its blaze lit the sea, ending hours of European uncertainty.
A quarrel between two elderly men, ages 72 and 78, over railroad ties led to an assault charge against J. C. Yates of Buchtel. Frank Weise, 78, accompanied the fray and suffered the worse injuries. Yates pleaded not guilty before Magistrate S. B. Whitehart and was held to the grand jury under a $300 bond, arrested by Sheriff Joe Farbearn and Deputy Nellis Smith.
The Ohio unemployment compensation commission, formed from scratch on January 1, has organized its personnel with 75 employees and is rapidly building a large insurance fund. Chairman Charles S. Leasure reports $7,339,166 contributed in 1936 payroll taxes, with expectations to reach $12,000,000. July 1 will mark the start of 1937 tax collections, anticipated to add $24,000,000 more.
Representatives from Gallipolis to Portsmouth Ohio and river towns in Kentucky and West Virginia urged Army Engineers to approve a survey for a new high dam below Ironton Ohio. Led by Rep. Thomas A Jenkins the group said rising river traffic justifies replacing four existing dams with a single larger structure.

Also up for a vote were measures extending mortgage foreclosure sales protections until 1939 and voiding two year deficiency judgments.
Legislation to stabilize the soft coal industry is presented in the House for the third time in two years. Sponsored by Rep Vinson of Kentucky, the bill mirrors the Guffey Act and its Vinson substitute, enforcing price fixing with a seven member coal commission and a 19 percent compliance tax on below minimum price sales.
Nine men were sentenced to one to five years each for a Black Legion plot to kill Arthur L. Kingsley, Highland Park newspaper publisher. Among those jailed were N. Ray Markland, former Highland Park mayor, and Arthur F. Lupp, Sr., former Detroit milk inspector and named Michigan commander of the secret society.

New York gun dealer Moe Saraga was held in Hackensack New Jersey as a material witness in the killing of R Norman Redwood, a New York sandhog union leader. Prosecutor John J. Breslin Jr. set bail at 1000 dollars.

Los Angeles March 9 AP Vague fingerprints and a cash reward surfaced in the citys biggest crime puzzle who shot District Attorney Byron Fitts The war veteran prosecutor told reporters from a hospital bed he would likely be out in 10 to 12 days and offered little on identifying three or four men in a black sedan who ambushed him Sunday night He had recently secured felony indictments against about 350 aircraft sit down strikers at Santa Monica and speculated the attack could stem from an enemy he sent to prison or an ally of radical trouble makers.

The Cincinnati board of education plans to demand Red Cross payment for damages to schools used as refugee centers in the recent flood. Hamilton County Red Cross director Ernest P. Krick said national policy does not cover public property losses. If unpaid, Supt. Edward D. Roberts warned schools may close by May 28, noting losses including lunchroom equipment and towels valued at $104 and $236 respectively.
