A statewide search is underway for Shawn Lane a white four year old from Columbus missing since Saturday The boy was last seen with two youths who said they would take him to Old Man s Cave in Hocking County Roberta Lane the mother authorized the ride The youths Brian Lowery 17 and James Rider 17 traveled from Colorado in a greenish Chevrolet Vega with possible Ohio plates The boy wore a white King Kong T shirt a blue coat red striped sleeves and cowboy boots Police report conflicting license plate details animals.

Lancaster youth given 15 year term on auto theft

Larry R. Edes, 18, of Lancaster, pleaded guilty to stealing an auto owned by Joe B. McLain on Sept 20, 1976. Judge James Stilwell sentenced him today in Hocking County Common Pleas Court to 15 years, suspended on good behavior with two years probation and 60 days to pay court costs.

Markets moved ahead in early trading with the Dow Jones average of 30 industrial stocks up about two points. Gainers held a 3-2 edge over losers among New York Stock Exchange listed issues.

Springlike Warmth Grips Hocking Valley Forecast

A springlike 50 degrees under blue skies was recorded in the Hocking Valley at 11 a.m. today after an overnight low of 15. Monday’s high was 42 with a forecast of upper 60s and near 40 lows for Wednesday and a 10 percent precipitation chance. The extended forecast calls for unseasonably warm weather with daily showers possible through Saturday.

Librarian Caroline Ball resigns from Logan-Hocking Library

Caroline Ball's resignation, effective May 6, accepted with regret, ends her tenure since January 1976 as librarian of Logan-Hocking County District Library. She plans to marry May 14 and move to Dayton area, while the board seeks a replacement with a master's degree.

Carter Sets Summit Meet

School Boards Found Guilty Of Race Bias

A federal judge ruled the Columbus city and state boards of education fostered racial segregation in the 96,000-student district. Judge Robert M. Duncan said officials caused and maintained segregation and gave 90 days to propose a remedy for the 1977-1978 school year.

Death Penalty Question Not Taken Up by Court

The Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from Texas inmate Ernest Benjamin Smith Jr. on whether the death penalty applies to crimes with murder but without the killer directing the death. He was on Texas death row for a 1973 Dallas robbery in which clerk William Moon was killed, though accomplice Howie Robinson fired the fatal shot.

Logan High wrestler makes first state tournament appearance

Logan High School will send George Cassady to the Ohio state wrestling tournament at St John Arena on the Ohio State University campus. Cassady, 16-0 this season in the 105-pound Class AAA, won district and beat Chris Mowery in the finals after a late comeback to claim the title.
