Andrew Edwards, 27, of Columbus faces preliminary hearings in the hit and run death of 67-year-old Ella Galvin on Christmas Eve 1955. Police arrested Edwards after a tip and said Galvin was crossing at a downtown intersection against the signal when struck.

Cottage Destroyed By Fire On Little Cola Road

A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a summer cottage on Little Cola Road off Route 180 about 12 miles west of Logan in Laurel Two. Owned by R. B. Finckel of Columbus, the loss was estimated at 6000 dollars. The blaze, likely started by an oil furnace, consumed the building before firefighters from Logan and eight men from the Hocking Honor Camp could contain it.

Local 876 of the United Brick and Clay Workers reports a 6 to 1 vote to stay out on strike. Eugene Johnson says six Natco plants in Ohio rejected the company contract offer, including a seven cent per hour raise. Ironton Men Nabbed After Kroger Robbery

Three Ironton men aged 24, 23, and 23 were arrested five miles south of Zanesville on Rt 22 by the state highway patrol within two hours of a $12,000 Kroger supermarket robbery in New Lexington. They carried $11,046 in a car stash, a torn sack left the sum short, and about $40 more was found near the scene. The suspects identified by Warren Donnelly and Keith Reeves face armed robbery arraignment at 7 p.m. in New Lexington.
