Three men charged with operating a 126 gallon whisky still in Tar Hollow State Forest Ross County were sentenced in U S district court. Judge Mell G Underwood gave Noble T Congreve 36 and William M Armstrong 42 prison terms of one year and one day with $500 fines suspended. Samuel Leasure 62, totally blind, was put on probation for one year. Congreve and Leasure live near Laurelville, Armstrong in Ross County.
Workmen sift debris in the Kenyon College dormitory searching for six of nine students who died in the blaze. Investigators led by President Chalmers cite a deteriorated chimney flue as the cause, with sparks from a small on site wood fire likely starting the disaster between 3:55 and 4 A M. The 122 year old building had been rebuilt in 1907 and used by the Army in 1943 as barracks for 200 men.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted two Zanesville lawyers and five Muskingum County residents on perjury charges related to fast divorces. The panel found 80 cases tied to a domestic relations court divorce mill, including fake Columbus addresses and remarriages, with six weeks or six months rules cited.
Lima police detective J Robert Neely testified he wired a microphone into an Allen County court jury room with fellow officer Bernard L Burkart and Sheriff William R Dailey not aware.
