Hocking Valley Delegation Backs Clear Creek Project

An 18 member delegation from the Hocking Valley backed the Logan Reservoir project in Cincinnati with Gen Willard C Roper and Corps staff. Spokesman Don Johnson led Logan Athens and Nelsonville support. state officials present included Richard Midden Clarence Foust and Richard Moseley. The corps outlined status and steps to begin construction as part of Appalachian water resources study.

Ben Het Camp Under Fresh Sweep by South Vietnamese

Fresh 1500 South Vietnamese troops moved into central Highlands to clear the Ben Het area and relieve pressure on the besieged camp. Viet Cong warned of Ben Het’s doomed fall, while U S air strikes and B52s pounded bunkers and reinforcements near the Laos border. In Bardstown Kentucky four guardsmen were killed in Vietnam prompting a county mourning period through July 4.

RCA To Build Glass Plant At Circleville Ohio

RCA announces a $19 million glass plant near Circleville Ohio to produce components for color TV tubes. The 325000 square foot facility on 162 acres will operate 24 hours on three shifts and employ up to 1200 people, with construction starting immediately.

Rockbridge Marine Receives Purple Heart

Lance Corporal Timothy W. Hansley of Rockbridge is listed in good condition at Da Nang Naval Hospital after sustaining grenade fragment and shrapnel wounds to his arm and sides on June 7. He earned the Purple Heart, is a 1967 Berne Union High School graduate, enlisted last August, and has served in Vietnam since January. Two Projectors and Record Player Stolen From Church

The Rev. Jackson Beverly of Logan Presbyterian Church reported to police that two movie projectors and a record player worth about $900 were taken from the church office between June 19 and 21. The church is normally left open and no forced entry was found.

Violence Flows in Kokomo as Curfew Enforced Citywide

Violence flared again in a Kokomo Indiana Negro neighborhood with an ear lier cross burning leading to 14 arrests including four armed whites. State police aided city officers as a Friday curfew ran from 10 30 p m to dawn. In Omaha gunfire reports subsided after three days of unrest and Cairo Illinois kept a curfew with no new incidents. The violence followed the fatal shooting of Vivian Strong by a white patrolman and her father urged calm.

Winnie Ruth Judd Captured Seven Years After Escape

Winnie Ruth Judd, once known as the tiger woman, was captured near San Francisco after seven escapes from Arizona State Hospital. Authorities say the woman, now calling herself Marian Lane, matches Judd by fingerprints and a distinguishing scar, with extradition planned to Arizona.

Guard Unit Heads For Summer Camp

Ninety five members of the Logan National Guard unit left at shortly after 5 a m for fourteen days of summer camp at the Grand River Wildlife Area near Akron and at Camp Perry in Ottawa County. They will be at the Grand River preserve through July 3 and at Camp Perry July 4 12.

Nixon to become first U.S. leader to visit Communist Romania

President Nixon announced plans for an August trip that will start after visits to five Southeast Asian capitals and include a mid Pacific stop aboard the Hornet to greet Apollo 11. He will then proceed to Manila, Indonesia, Thailand, India and Pakistan before Bucharest.
