Mansfield police and county officers hunted the second bank robber after Elmer D. Chronister of Wooster was captured at a roadblock south of Ashland. Chronister, on parole from Leavenworth, had tied the Richland County holdup to a 1949 Crawford County bank raid. The other suspect, a Negro, escaped during the chase. The Lucas State Bank tally showed $1,551 of the loot in Chronister’s possession when arrested.
