Bears kept him captive in his cabin for two days after he shot at them then trampled by a horse. Rescuers reached him after he inched to a water supply then crawled to his cabin and finally phoned for aid. He was moved by pack horse and boat to Jasper, then Medicine Lake, for treatment.
