Wanderers Fiddle Way Through Logan

A pair of merry wanderers hitchhiked into Logan then camped under the Ohio 328 bridge after visiting Green Gables tavern. Tim Jenkins and Dan Kissinger, from Duluth Minnesota, travel the country with fiddle and banjo while taking odd jobs and chasing new horizons. They plan to head toward Cincinnati and beyond as they pursue curiosity and happiness.

Swimmers Nearly Drydocked at Logan Pool as Vandals Strike

Vandals broke into the pumphouse and opened the main drain valve, dropping pool water about a foot. Recreation Director Dick Erb said the water should return to normal by late afternoon and warned that after hours swimmers will be prosecuted. Red Cross lessons canceled due to the prank.

Logan planners back nursing home zoning on flood plain

Logan Planning Commission endorsed rezoning to high density residential for a proposed 56 bed nursing home on 10 acres south of Arlington Avenue near First Baptist Church. The panel will send the recommendation to City Council for a public hearing next Tuesday.

Motion Asks Probation Be Revoked

Tim Bookman of Logan Route 4 on probation after guilty plea to breaking and entering appeared in Hocking County Common Pleas Court as prosecutors moved to revoke probation for rule violations. The matter was continued with Bookman released on $1000 recognizance bond. original six months to five years sentence suspended if he adheres to probation for two years.

Kellar Files For Liquor Permits At Horsemen's Hideaway

Price C Kellar doing business as Horsemen's Hideaway at 18809 Ohio 664S has filed with the Ohio Department of Liquor Control for C-1 and C-2 liquor permits. The permits would allow sale of 3.2 beer and high powered beer and wine for carry-out, per Director Clifford E Reich.

Renamed To Airport Authority Members Reappointed

Roger Humphrey and Charles Orwig were reappointed Thursday by Hocking County commissioners to three year terms on the Hocking County Airport Authority retroactive to March 25. The board also set the dog reclaim charge at six dollars and kept dog license fees at four dollars. Carol M. Wilkinson was hired as deputy clerk in county court. Officials do not plan new county taxes despite a possible tax meeting with Vinton County officials.

Market rises as fears over policy ease ease trading

New York stocks opened higher with the Dow Jones industrial average up more than a point. Gainers outpaced losers about 3 to 1 on the New York Stock Exchange as analysts noted easing fears about monetary policy.

Grand Jury To Convene In Hocking County

The Hocking County grand jury will meet Monday to consider about 16 cases. Prosecutor Chris Veidt will present two counts of felonious assault and a range of charges including aggravated arson weapon under disability burglary escapes obstruction arson trafficking passing bad checks receiving stolen property theft child stealing corruption of a minor.

AMA Clears Dissent to Back National Health Plan

In San Francisco the AMA House of Delegates voted to keep endorsing a privately financed national health insurance plan, rejecting moves to weaken support. Leaders warned that withdrawing could yield a federally financed system, with subsidies for the unemployed and required employer contributions.
