Three New Polio Cases Reported

The Ohio state health department reported three new polio cases, one in Washington, one in Marion, and one in Union counties. Since January, 26 cases have been reported, compared with 17 by this time last year.

Mine Operators Study Lewis Contract Terms

Southern operators studied a proposed contract with John L. Lewis that would raise miners wages by 12 to 15 cents an hour and boost welfare fund contributions from 10 to about 15 cents per ton of coal. Southeastern Ohio Physicians Organize Regional General Practice Group

Physicians from eight southeastern Ohio counties met at the Cambrian Hotel to form the Southeast ern Ohio Chapter of the Ohio Academy of General Practice. Dr. Clyde Fitch of Portsmouth was elected president and Dr. Herbert Chamberlain of McArthur was named president-elect. Dr. J. D. Swango became secretary treasurer. The group aims to address challenges facing general practitioners with attendees including Dr. H. M. Taft Predicts Victory at Republican Convention

Senator Taft asserted he will win the Republican nomination as balloting nears but offered no clear plan to secure the 548 votes. A brief thunderstorm around 11:30 A M cooled Logan and Hocking County as temperatures dropped from 91 to 87 degrees. Earlier a 62 degree low gave way to a 91 degree reading by 11 A M, with yesterday's peak at 94 degrees.

Louis Brush chairman of the Brush Moore newspapers died at Hahnemann Hospital Philadelphia after a cerebral attack. Catholic Girls Told to Avoid Beauty Contests in Diocese

Bishop John J. Swint of Wheeling WV warned Catholic girls in his diocese to shun beauty pageants or face excommunication. Cecil Ruff 39 of Logan Route 2 Marion Township died at 2 P M Wednesday after a short illness. He operated a farm on Logan Route 2 and was never married. Services 10 A M Saturday at Leonard Funeral Home with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Surviving are his father Charles Ruff of Logan Route 2 a brother Lydell of Temple City California and a sister Mrs Ethel Hartman of Columbus.
