Philadelphia June 22 Republicans outline a 1948 farm plank promising permanent price supports a sounder soil saving program and cooperative backing They seek flexible price supports loans to remove surpluses marketing agreements and other means to achieve stable markets The plan supports family sized farms and introduces a long range farm bill path to 1950 with continued price supports in modified form and broad backing from farm groups.
Edith Gaffin Milda S. Meyer Carlos A. Gaffin and Harley Meyer form Hocking Valley Solvents Co at Columbus to operate Union Furnace plant producing liquid plastic and undercoating for autos. Two hundred fifty shares of no par common stock issued. Production to begin soon with size of workforce to depend on business volume.
Two Hocking County motorists faced fines after appearances before acting co mayor Earl Hilleary in Nelsonville. Raymond Dufford of Logan forfeited a $20 bond for unsafe operation while Carol Bowlby of Logan Route 1 and John McVey of Union Furnace were fined $10 plus costs for speeding and related pleading.
Convention Hall Philadelphia June 22 The Republican presidential nomination fight intensifies as Dewey Taft and Stassen vie for delegates. Taft nears deals with Missouri and Kansas while Warren’s backers insist on a California do or die stance. Stassen denies deals amid a Taft Stassen ticket talk. Pennsylvania delegates show no accord with 72 of 73 pledging to Martin, Duff backing Vandenberg.
Ohio industrial employment declined two percent in April from March figures, with statewide payrolls three percent lower than March and eight percent lower in Toledo. Akron and Toledo led losses at three percent, while Dayton and Youngstown shed six and four percent respectively. Food products rose five percent in payrolls.

William A. Henderson, 80, of Miami Florida and a former Logan general contractor, died Monday at his home after months of poor health. He was a native of Licking County and lived in Logan much of his life. He had lived with oe Weaver in Miami for six years. His body will be returned to Columbus Wednesday noon and sent to Leonard Funeral Home for arrangements. His two sons survive.

Federal Judge T Alan Goldsborough ruled for John L Lewis on a $100 monthly pension plan for senior UMW miners. The decision upheld the tentative scheme funded by a $5 million start from a $45 million welfare fund, while ruling that a trustee need only a majority to pay benefits and that eligibility extends to former and non-member workers under the 1947 contract framework.
In Columbus Ohio on June 22 representatives of the AFL Teamsters Union and 55 Columbus freight hauling firms met to resume wage talks. The union vote Sunday approved a strike if talks fail.
A 33-year-old conscientious objector named James D. Peck from New York City chained himself to a banister at the White House during visiting hours to protest the draft. Secret Service quickly removed him and noted his recent release from Danbury federal penitentiary after a three-year term.
