Hesboro to Close High School and Move Pupils Next Year
The Hesboro district will close its high school at the end of the 1938-39 term and transfer all high school students and seventh and eighth grade pupils to Union Furnace in 1939-40. State education director E N Dietrich confirmed the plan in a letter to Starr-Washington officials, following a board resolution and a survey by state inspector L H Louthian. A WPA road project from Route 75 to Union Furnace may be completed in time for the next school year.

John R. Elder 69, longtime Hocking Valley and C and O railway employee, died at 9 30 P M Friday at his Columbus home 32 Parkwood avenue after years of ill health. He lived in Logan many years, moved to Columbus in 1935, and had served as Port of Customs marshal in Washington during Taft era. He will be buried at Athens with arrangements by Heinlein Bros. in Logan. He is survived by a widow, a son Harry Columbus, three daughters Frances Martin Edith Wysong Columbus and Florence Tracy Pomeroy, four sisters and five grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 11 A M at the Columbus residence with Dr J Harry Cotton officiating.
