Helen Tiernan pleaded guilty to second degree murder in Suffolk County for killing her seven year old daughter Helen and injuring her four year old son Jimmy. She described a planned act to block a remarriage, taking the children to a Brookhaven area “picnic” where she cut Helen with scissors hit her with a hatchet poured gasoline on clothing and set it aflame. Jimmy was struck by the hatchet and Helen died. Jimmy survived and recovers.
