State Policeman Paul Randall said Tipton admitted sending the note to D C Burroughs warning the kids would be dead by morning unless he supplied wedding clothes and money. Burroughs said he would not prosecute and would likely keep Tipton on his estate.

WPA projects employ 1344 in Hocking County
Three Hocking County WPA projects employed 1,344 persons today per weekly report by L. C. Gibson district WPA director. Last week 1,322 on WPA rolls. A new project to clean public school buildings in the county is planned for next week likely sponsored by district school boards. Boards will receive about $100 of labor for each $7 in materials. Two Men Fined for Contributing to Delinquency of Youth
William Dalton and George Rinderknecht of Columbus were fined 25 dollars and costs plus 30 days suspended jail time after pleading guilty to contributing to delinquency of a 16 year old Logan youth. They previously pled not guilty. The youth said they bought him beer, toured Logan, and made improper advances before being found by police near Oldtown Bridge. Trainmen Missing After Flood-Struck Fort Worth Line Crash

Recall of Black in job case shocks common pleas court
C Elbert Black, former head of the state Gasoline Tax Division, was recalled for cross examination in his Civil Service suit to regain his job after testifying that State Tax Commissioner Frank Miller said he would lose his job for political reasons. The Tax Commission said the post was abolished as an economy move in May 1937. Black says he was dismissed for refusing political work for Gov. Martin L. Davey. Witnesses for Black suggested a possible separate probe into Wilson taking over his duties and pressuring workers to fear the Tax Commission. Black also alleged Miller told him the governor “doesn't give a damn about Civil Service” when shown firing lists.
