A plane will tow a flashlight over two proposed moonwatch stations to mimic a space satellite orbit. If successful, the technique will train over 4,000 moonwatchers nationwide to spot man made satellites at dawn or dusk.
London reports the Soviet Union proposes a two to three year moratorium on nuclear tests with international inspectors. Valerian Zorin outlines an international commission and control posts in the US Britain USSR and Pacific area to enforce the moratorium. Harold Stassen says major disarmament steps are closer than since World War II.
A canvas-covered Army truck on a bridge near Fort Campbell Kentucky fell into Piney Fork Creek killing 14 paratroopers and injuring nine others. Soldiers of the 327th Airborne Infantry were returning from field training when the 2½ ton truck crossed the gravel road rail and plunged 20 feet. Helicopters evacuated victims to the base hospital. a board of inquiry opened into the accident.
Provisional President Daniel Fignole's government falls as Brig. Gen. Antonio Rebreau dismisses Fignole and Cabinet. Army promises to assume power. arrests likely. Turmoil follows street clashes and pre-coup rumors of staged elections amid a six month crisis in Haiti.
Sgt. James H. Holloway in Columbus asks why his Korean War bonus check is delayed. He submitted his claim to Mr. George Gobel at the State Capitol, while the director handling bonuses is Chester W. Goble, base in Florida.

Columbus police investigate the death of 16 year old Ronald Wood who was shot with a 12 gauge shotgun by 15 year old Arthur Stockdale in their home Stockdale says he believed the safety was on when he fired the weapon Wood and Stockdale are Columbus residents authorities are reviewing the incident as a possible accidental shooting
Heavy showers in Hocking County ended a two week dry spell with the Logan area seeing the first downpour Thursday afternoon and more showers overnight. The temperature reached 92 degrees at 12 30 p m before cooling to 69 that night and 83 by 11 30 a m today. Forecasters expect warm humid weather and scattered showers tonight and Saturday.
A severe wind storm hit northern Trumbull County late Thursday demolishing several buildings and leaving a large area without telephone and electric service along Ohio 7 from Vernon to the state line. No injuries were reported as the storm spread across the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes region with tornadoes funnel clouds and strong winds noted in several states.
Temperatures will average 7 to 10 degrees above normal with highs near 80 to 84 and lows around 59 to 62. Warm spell continues through the period with slightly cooler days Saturday and Monday. Occasional showers expected, total rainfall about one inch.
An empty beer can thrown into the path of a subway train caused a short circuit and smoky fire delaying rush hour service on one branch for 88 minutes. The train ground the can against a shoe beam to the third rail, forcing power shutoff and evacuation of about 75,000 passengers.

The Ameri can Farm Bureau Federation will convene leaders from corn producing states in Chicago on June 17 to discuss proposals for new federal corn legislation.
An optimistic Emory University Hospital report says former Senator Walter F. George is responding well to treatment for heart disease. The update came from the Atlanta facility today.
Oslo reports the military committee unanimously welcomed an American offer to equip Norway with missile weapons. In Hong Kong, Communist China released two American Jesuit missionaries after four years of imprisonment and house arrest.
The General Assembly of the United Presbyterian Church in North America voted 161 to 124 to merge with the Presbyterian Church in the USA creating a United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America with about three million members. Debate lasted an hour with three supporters and four opponents, unifying in song after the vote.
Logan Ohio bids on a 900000 school building program were opened with Knowlton Construction Co. the low general contractor at 564000. Contracts include remodeling and adding to the junior high, converting Central building, and new wings with a September 1958 completion.

Logan Elks Lodge No. 452 runs its "Show Your Colors" campaign asking residents to fly the Stars and Stripes from dawn to dusk honoring the 180th anniversary of flag adoption.
