The Russians barred all food and coal shipments by rail to Berlin’s western sectors affecting about 2,000,000 Germans and 25,000 Allied residents. Western officials called the move an escalation in the Berlin crisis while trains were halted at the Helmsedt Marienborn border point.
Columbus police hunted a stolen car last night after a stranger drove off with three children inside the vehicle. The youths Erlene 11 Doris 10 and Curtis Bosley 8 were eating ice cream when taken and are siblings of Mary 16 Sarah 17 and Jean 15, daughters of Mr and Mrs Charles Bosley.
Five members of an Akron gang terrorized the city last winter receive Mansfield Reform School sentences. John Bilandzika 21 John W. Carrall 18 Sidney Bevins 19 Joseph Phillips 19 and Richard Phillips 21 each get minimum terms of 10 to 25 years.
President Truman told a Eugene Oregon crowd aboard his train that Soviet leader Stalin is a prisoner of the Politburo, unable to keep agreements. He planned a Berkeley speech to expand on hopes for U.S.-Soviet understanding and said Stalin would act if not restrained by party chiefs.
Charles S. Ferguson the division engineer for the state highway department told Logan city officials he will request Columbus to approve rebuilding East Front Street which was damaged by last winter's cold. Peter K. Peterson aged 61 a retired marine engineer was killed yesterday when he slipped and fell under a tractor in his Cleveland area orchard. The incident occurred on June 12 near his home.

The House planned a rare Saturday to debate taxation farm prices and social security while the Senate weighs the reciprocity act extension and farm price support renewal. A $400 million tax revision aims to remove bugs and inequities in the statutes.
Akron June 12 Firestone Tire and Rubber Co and the CIO United Rubber Workers signed a company-wide contract providing 11 cent an hour wage increase for 23 000 employees. It is Firestone’s first URW pact joining peers Goodyear U S Rubber and Goodrich in the rubber industry.
Andrew Oswalt, 40, of North Liberty, fell from a power boat and drowned in Pleasant Hills Reservoir yesterday. He leaves nine children.

The Senate approved a foreign policy resolution by 64 to 4 backing American participation in regional defense under UN peace aims. The plan calls for military aid to Western Europe, an international peace‑keeping force, veto reform at the Security Council, and global armament reduction.
