Treasury officials say states must join a reciprocal tax program to repurpose lost exemptions into public revenue. With the Friday June 11 filing deadline near two days away, Logan candidates rush petitions to the county election board. Republican mayoral hopeful Dallas Jack Kinser filed last night, while Democrat Councilman Samuel Bright also filed. Several others including John D. Tipton and Carl Blosser filed bids for council seats. incumbents Harold Larimer and Desmond Braddock won't seek reelection. Others expected to file include Mark Ricketts for city treasurer and potential challengers for mayor and council. First to file for mayor was Tate Schrader. further filings anticipated from Jesse Gabriel J M Meldrim and D Y Milne. City solicitor candidates Harley Meyer and Joseph Canty have not filed.

In Lancaster Ohio two Boys Industrial School inmates Frank Sedar aged 17 and Albert Brown aged 18 were convicted of first degree murder for slaying a guard during an escape attempt. A jury delivered verdict after 23 hours of deliberation, mandating life terms at Ohio Penitentiary. Attorney Richard Mills debated an appeal today.
In Flint Michigan on June 9 AP reports strikers at Consumers Power Co disregard settlement and labor leaders appeals. Major industries shut down including General Motors plants at Saginaw turning off at noon. Zilwaukee plant limited to 20 000 kilowatts. Saginaw kept lights but Bay City Flint and other communities across 13 counties faced power outages. Bay City hospital without power. fire alarms silent. about 400 000 homes affected and 100 000 workers idle.
An Associated Press dispatch reports the death of Theodore Wollett 37 of Murray City when an auto struck him and companion George Smith 26 of South Gate California as they repaired a trailer tire near Cheyenne Wyoming. Wollett is brother to Clarence Wollett Murray City and Lawrence Wollett Columbus formerly Logan.
The Ohio Public Utilities Commission ruled a six percent fair rate of return after studying the Ohio Fuel Gas Co. appeal tied to Springfield City's 1934 action. A dissenting member, R. D. Williams, argued for 6 1/4 percent. The commission left discussion of the gas rate out, focusing on plant value and investment returns.
Election officials announced today that candidates in the city election may file their petitions until 6 30 P M Friday June 11.
