Ohio Election Day Slow With Local Races Dominant

Ohio voters faced a quiet election day with no statewide issues. In Dayton a school operating tax proposal seeks $7 million yearly to cover desegregation driven costs while Youngstown hosts a mayoral primary among Catsoules, Rohan, Richley, and Kirwan as Jack Hunter vacates the post.

Voters flock to Fourth Ward as 14 cast ballots by noon

In Logan's fourth ward only two polling places are open for the primary. By 11 a.m. fourteen Democratic voters had cast ballots in the council nomination race between incumbent Robert Schultz and Rudy Myers. Eleven of the votes were in Logan 4-A and three in Logan 4-B. Three county polling places serve the Logan Elm School District where a 3.5 mill operating levy is on the ballot in today's off year primary.

Plant Developers Seek State Aid

Columbus AP report notes Conoco Coal Develop ment Company seeks state protective legislation to guarantee a $250 million Ohio investment in a Noble County coal gasification plant. ERDA chief says current laws deter investment. bill would let East Ohio Gas recover higher gasified fuel costs from all customers. Construction could start May 1979, creating about 1,000 jobs and $214 million in 1975 dollars in state economy.

Tonight and Wednesday look fair with highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s, a 10 percent rain chance tonight and 20 percent on Wednesday.

Severe storms leave multiple dead across eastern states

Tornadoes and thunderstorms sweep the east and south, killing at least seven people. A fishing boat capsized on Chesapeake Bay with nine missing as winds reached 96 mph in Norfolk. Power outages affected up to 30 000 customers in North Carolina. Temperatures plunged across the Southeast while Little Rock and Savannah posted record highs and frost warnings were forecast for Michigan and Wisconsin.

Ohio groups seek referendum on election day registration

Ohioans for Preservation of Honest Elections filed a petition to overturn two sections of the election day and permanent registration provisions. Leaders plan to ask Atty. Gen. Brown for legal guidance while the petition moves toward certification and a signature drive ahead of a November ballot.

Haydenville Man Held To Grand Jury

Haydenville resident Christopher McKibben 22 was bound over to the grand jury under a 2000 dollar bond at a Monday preliminary in Hocking County Court. He faces grand theft in the May 26 Open Pantry meat package theft filed by manager Douglas Flannery.

Queen Celebrates Silver Jubilee in London Procession

Millions cheered as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip rode the golden state coach through London for the Silver Jubilee thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Charles followed in Welsh Guards, with 3,000 troops and 10 bands. A 62 gun salute marked the coach’s departure from Temple Bar amid rain and sunshine.
