Pentagon Studies Killer Satellite Interceptor Plan
The Defense Department will study the feasibility of a satellite that can intercept and destroy hostile space vehicles. The Air Force asked industry on May 26 to submit proposals, with at least three companies to be selected for competitive studies. If pursued, testing could begin next year, aiming for a 1975 or 1976 test launch. The plan follows Soviet tests of space weaponry, including Cosmos satellites and the FOAB system, which raised concerns about space security.
