Columbus, June 2 AP War becomes central before commissioners of the Presbyterian Church in the U S A as they near the 149th general assembly final session. Debates include pacifist efforts to delete war from the confession and larger catechism, a bid to repudiate defenses of war, and criticism of U S military spending.
July 12 was set as the date for the electrocution of William M. Gardner, 36, of Frazersburg, convicted of killing Arch B. Coyner during a hotel robbery. Gardner had been sentenced to February 19 but the court of appeals delayed the execution as his attorneys pursued further action.
About 185 delegates from the Ohio Forestry Association and the American Forestry Association attended a luncheon at Camp Hocking. They planned a short excursion through Hocking State Parks before continuing to their convention activities.
Amelia Earhart lifted her twin motor monoplane for the second leg of her world flight, aiming for Paramaribo, Dutch Guiana. Washington June 2 AP Congressional leaders moved to start a fast tax dodging inquiry possibly late next week. Senate finance chairman Harrison said testifying would be offered to wealthy individuals named by the Presidents message. House action was awaited to appoint twelve lawmakers to lead the inquiry and hearings could begin once subpoenas issue.
Near Hamilton Ohio Emery Curtis a 75 year old farmer died when his light truck collided late yesterday. His wife Margaret 61 was seriously injured in the same crash authorities said. The collision occurred on a rural road outside the town as emergency crews responded at once. Local investigators began a routine inquiry into the cause of the crash.
The Administration’s 1.5 billion relief bill won House approval after a revolt was quashed and moved to the Senate for another major battle. Economy advocates vow to push a one third cut, while some senators may seek state amendments to earmark funds for roads and dams. The measure passed the House 323 to 44 after last minute modifications agreed by the president’s aides.
Militant labor forces and steel corporations remain locked in a week old strike across seven states. Republic Steel Corp plans to continue production and moves arms and munitions to protect plants while delivering food to workers by air. Chicago readies 1000 police as rioting deaths drop to five. NEW YORK June 2 AP A Brooklyn alderman proposed a special committee to probe charges of immorality in Brooklyn High School students. District Attorney William F. X. Geoghan claimed school officials were lax and parents and teachers were troubled by an “unusual immoral” situation, a statement schools officials challenged.

Fred Knowles aged 86 died in a hospital from injuries suffered May 27 when struck by a car. The Dayton accident raises Montgomery County's year tally to 35 automobile fatalities for the year.
Forest Blue, 22, and Mike Magdos, 26, were indicted yesterday by a Hocking County grand jury and pleaded guilty this morning to armed robbery in the May 8 holdup of Price's filling station on West Hunter Street. Judge Henderson gave indeterminate sentences to the Ohio Penitentiary.
A one man grand jury began probing last week's clash between Ford Motor Co. employees and United Automobile Workers. Edsel Ford was subpoenaed but not located along with personnel director Harry H Bennett. Six witnesses testified before Judge Ralph L. Liddy as Dearborn Mayor John L Carey, tied to the site of the disturbance, provided details.
New York June 2 AP Ford Frick president of the National League suspended Jerome Dizzy Dean indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the best interests of baseball. Dean has been at the center of disturbances both on and off the field in recent months.

Lancaster Ohio June 2 AP The trial of Frank Sedar 17 and Albert Brown 18 Negro inmates of the Boys Industrial School charged with slaying Guard Engineer Hobart Stewart during a Dec 17 escape attempt resumed after physicians ruled them sane. Judge Frank M Acton halted proceedings yesterday for medical examinations by Drs J T McVeigh and George O Berry.
