James Davis Logan, 35, of 814 Betty Ave., announces candidacy for the Logan school board in the November general election. A data processing director at Tri-County Technical Institute and former treasurer, he is a Zanesville native and Freeman Hardeman graduate with 12 years in data processing and cost control. He and his wife Alice have three children and belong to the Church of Christ.
House Senate negotiators approve a two year draft bill urging Nixon to seek a final withdrawal date without a nine month Senate deadline. Antiwar senators plan filibuster once the bill reaches the Senate after summer recess.
Dr. John J. Cranley names Dr. Alfonso Y. Gay as recipient of a two year fellowship at the Kachelmacher clinic to be based at Hocking Valley Community Hospital and the Good Samaritan Vein Laboratory. Dr. Gay earned his medical degree in the Philippines and completed training in Seattle Cincinnati. The fellowship marks the second recipient after Dr. James Arbaugh Jr. and includes duty at the clinic every Friday and research work in Cincinnati.
Lewis Green aged 97 died at 1 a.m. at 390 FE Main St following a long life in Perry and nearby counties. Born October 22, 1873 in Perry County he worked over four decades in coal and with International Carbon and Ribbon Co. of Logan. Survived by daughter Minnie Reynolds two sons Edward and Charles Everett seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heinlein Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery Nelsonville.
Two first year medical students from Ohio State University School of Medicine finished the first phase of an accelerated training program at Hocking Valley Community Hospital. Assigned to HVCH, James L. Helmers of Dayton and Richard N. Fogoros of Youngstown, with David Arledge of HVCH administration, completed July sessions held Mondays and Fridays.
The Ohio Historical Society acquired and exhibits the 1855 oil "Hocking Valley Picnic" by David Walcutt. Gift from Miss Marie Shearer estate, Ann Arbor, Mich, the work depicts well dressed picnickers beside the Hocking River in a woodland glade.
The Hocking sheriff's department reports Dick's Tavern near South Bloomingville is closed after two recent killings. Sheriff Paul Hartman ordered a two week closure last Friday night. it reopened earlier this week and was closed again according to officers.
