Venice Ohio suffered a $150000 fire damage disaster after a car struck a tanker. Driver Adolph Woodrey 86 died and a woman in the car was unaccounted for eyewitness reports. Truck driver Albert Koehler 41 escaped with minor injuries.
President Eisenhower reiterated opposition to adding a jury trial amendment to the civil rights bill now before the Senate. He defended federal judges power to enforce court orders and endorsed the bill as it stands. He noted four objectives from his July 16 statement and argued there is no need to amend section 4. Knowland denied White House pressure to rally GOP votes against the jury trial idea.
Walter J. Kohler Jr. won the Wisconsin Republican Senate nomination over Glenn R. Davis in Milwaukee, backing President Eisenhower and his Modern Republicanism. He faces Democrat William Proxmire in the August 27 general election after a primary turnout under 25 percent of eligible voters.
Two Circleville area brothers aged 14 and 11 were committed to the Columbus Juvenile Research Center after breaking into a farm home near Williamsport and stealing a tractor. Sheriff Radcliff said they fueled the tractor, roamed toward Columbus then slept in a park before being caught by Hocking County deputies. They financed the trip by collecting bottles for cash.
The Atomic Energy Commission announced a license approved export of a small amount of radioactive carbon-14 to the Bio-Chemical Institute of the Academy of Science in Moscow for cancer research. Chemesco Corp of New York City secured the export license.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor John T. Corrigan said he will weigh presenting a purported murder confession by Donald J. Wedler to a grand jury. Wedler, jailed in Deland Florida, claims he killed Marilyn Sheppard near Cleveland on July 4, 1954. Her husband Dr. Samuel H. Sheppard is serving a life term for the crime.
Explosives were thrown at three U S Information Service centers in Beirut causing slight material damage but no casualties. One target was the Voice of America office with windows and doors shattered according to a U S embassy spokesman.

An automatic sprinkler system extinguished a small fire in the finishing room at Sun Glow furniture factory Tuesday evening. The blaze was out before city firemen arrived at 6 27 p m. Two regular firemen and nine volunteers answered. Fire Chief O J Hysell cited lacquer spray catching fire by spontaneous combustion with minor water damage.
A New York group opposed to nuclear weapons plans a protest march into the Nevada test area Tuesday. The National Committee for Nonviolent Action Against Nuclear Weapons says members will attempt to force past guards. The group. including Quakers, denounces nuclear tests as senseless folly and rejects communism and totalitarianism.

Four Hocking youths Malone Paul Edward 19 Dar nell William R. 21 Poling William L. 20 Malone William J. 22 were committed to county jail for investigation by Juvenile Court. Three minor girls were held overnight in Juvenile Detention Center. All are to appear in Juvenile Court this afternoon before Judge Rhea Bangert Brown.
