Seven Miners Dead In Edgewater Mine Blast
Seven coal miners were killed and 12 injured in a gas explosion at the Edgewater mine near Birmingham Alabama. The blast struck about 9 A.M. CST in a remote area four miles from the shaft entrance. The mine, nine miles west of Birmingham, is the Tennessee Coal Iron and Railroad Co. largest facility employing about 1,000 workers. A United Mine Workers spokesman said no federal violations were found at the last inspection.
