Albany, Georgia confronts a court battle over marches picketing and boycotts as 266 people were arrested last week. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. jailed again and King aide Wyatt Walker urged volunteers for a mass rally amid tensions with police.
Hocking County coroner rules the deaths of Columbus couple Raymond Schmelzer Sr. and Thelma Schmelzer as accidental drownings in their eight foot pool at a southwest Columbus summer home. Their son Amond found the pair about 11 30 a.m. Saturday and called authorities. The man reportedly turned off pool pumps after the 11 o clock news. both victims could not swim. A joint steel pole and a flashlight were found in the pool. Requiem High Mass is set for Tuesday at Our Lady of Peace Church. Burial will follow. In a separate case Randy Sheets, eight, of Columbus was found Sunday in Lake Burr Oak after sliding down a 100 foot bank during a camping trip. authorities say he often walked in his sleep.
Fog limited visibility across central Ohio this morning with the worst in central counties. Warm humid air dominates today with readings rising to the mid eighties by late morning. scattered thundershowers expected this afternoon and tonight. A weak cold front eases temperatures late tonight into Tuesday with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper seventies to low eighties and no rain.
Recreational areas in the Hocking region drew moderate to heavy crowds over the weekend. Rachelmacher Park was crowded for family reunions while Lake Logan saw heavy bank fishing. Hutchi sons Bait Shop noted crappies and bluegills active. Old Man's Cave traffic remained busy. Lake Hope hosted about 10 000 visitors with 1 100 on the water and 950 lodge meals. Saturday was the peak. Sunday weather reduced turnout.
