Drowning at Lake Hope Claims 13 Year Old Lonnie Kennard
Lonnie Kennard, 13, of Nelsonville Rt 1, drowned at Lake Hope State Park during midnight fishing near the main picnic area. The boy, a Park nightwatchman’s son, reportedly fell into the foggy lake around midnight. Rescue divers found the body about 7 a.m. near the pier. two skindivers had been en route to assist. He would have started 10th grade at Buchtel York School this fall. Funeral services are planned at Oak Grove Church with burial in Asbury Cemetery. Two sisters, a brother, and his parents survive along with grandparents. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home.

Two men wearing sunglasses robbed the Miami Valley Bank in Quincy, taking about $3000 from the cash drawer. They ordered the cashier Cc. J. Byers and teller Miss Mary Baker to hand over the money, then fled north on Ohio 69 in a gray car with Kentucky plates. Authorities continued to search for the suspects.
