Henry Ford, age 77, reports good health and strong confidence in the future as he marks his birthday in Dearborn. He says the United States will stay out of war, stresses self reliance and steady work, and plans a summer vacation with no formal celebration.
In Logan, Susan and Mike Roberts set up a street stall with a table two chairs a pitcher and four glasses in front of the family home. They offered Coolade for sale at three cents a glass citing inability to afford four cents and enjoyed a brief sell-out business before moving years ago from Logan.
German radio reports British authorities may convert London's metal light poles into munitions. The broadcast offered the quip that Britain should save some poles to hang war agitators later.
