Norwalk Ohio reports a fatal accident when a tree blown by wind toppled and crushed 62 year old William Ray of New London while he ran a portable saw mill on a local farm.
Fontaine Johnson, 64, was killed when his truck overturned and crushed him in Newark on July 29. The accident occurred as Johnson worked at the scene, authorities said.
President Roosevelt outlined a program to aid returning servicemen avoiding bread line hardship. A heavy electrical and wind storm swept southern Ohio flooding streets, knocking down trees and poles, starting fires, and causing power and telephone outages. Rain totals reached 2.4 inches in some areas with 45 mph winds and washed out roads and trolley services. Streets flooded, crops damaged, and several towns reported outages and disruptions to public services.
Superintendent W F Amrine said Alfred Madama aged 28 from Steubenville escaped yesterday while on a well drilling job at Orient Ohio. Madama is serving one to fifteen years for burglary and larceny in Jefferson County.
A War Food Administration order bans 25 fruits and berries in alcohol production, likely closing wineries in Ohio Michigan Illinois Wisconsin and stalling the nations 25 million dollar wine industry. Allan H Schultz for the Associated Vintners of the Midwest warns the ban will force closures and halt production nationwide.
The War Food Administration announced a per capita edible fats and oils allocation for civilians for the 12 months ending next June 30. The allotment covers butter lard shortening and margarine with about 5 pounds or 10 percent less than 1942 usage.

Merville C. Chapman of Canton and George Long of Scio were killed when their auto overturned near Carrollton yesterday.
An American Airlines flight from Louisville to Nashville crashed in Allen County near Trammel Ky. killing 20 and injuring two. Survivors were Lieut. Glenn Fellows of Love Field Texas and S K Hoffman of Williamsport Pa. Fire engulfed the wreckage and an inquest was to follow. Federal agents took charge of the scene.
The Great Lakes Sugar Company announced it will not operate its Findlay Ohio plant this year. Beets from the Findlay area will be shipped to the Fremont plant for processing.
