Highways Resurfacing Projects Under Contract In Area

The F. H. Brewer Co. wins a $182 386 contract to waterproof bridges and resurface sections of Rt. 33 Haydenville bypass Rt. 93S and S Mulberry St from Logan to Vinton lines. Shelly Co. gets $72 775 for bituminous shoulder work on Rt. 33 and related routes with Aug. 31 completion. Additional Shelly work includes Rt. 595 resurfacing for $20 790 due July 31. Shelly and Sands Co. secures $22 242 for four area state park parking lot work. Delays noted due to environmental impact study for Haydenville and Nelsonville bypasses. Plans for Rt. 93 relocations in Swan and Rt. 93N in Falls Gore Two under review. Resurfacing of Rt. 664N near Falls Mill bridge completed by state crew.

Ehrlichman Urges Dirt as Campaign Issue

Former White House aide John Ehrlichman told the Senate Watergate committee that campaigns may discuss drinking problems sexual habits and domestic situations as valid topics. He said incumbents’ drinking can impair judgment and that constituents have a right to see such behavior. The exchanges touched on Ehrlichman’s role hiring Anthony Ulasewicz to probe investigations for the White House.

Ohio Lawmakers Hit Ethics Snag

Ohio lawmakers wrapped up major 1973 action with pay raise bills for state workers and officials but halted the ethics bill draft, freezing it until August. Prison Riot Fatal To 2 In Oklahoma

In McAlester Oklahoma State Prison rioting left two inmates dead after 14 hours of fire and hostages held by insurgents. Prison officials said 12 prisoners were treated for injuries and two guards were stabbed. Authorities described 250 to 1000 inmates possibly involved and noted two hostages were freed due to heart conditions.

The Logan Lions Club sponsored the Logan Lions Junior Olympics at LHS field with two days of events. Suzanne Frazier and Debi Rider led with three firsts each, claiming multiple dashes jumps and throws in the girls divisions while boys winners included Mark Myers Mike Erb Tony Poling.

Astronauts Launch Skylab Mission on 59 Day Space Venture

Three American astronauts Alan Bean Owen Garriott and Jack Lousma launched from Cape Kennedy aboard Saturn 1B to begin a 59 day mission to rendezvous with the Skylab space station. They expected to reach the unmanned lab 271 miles above the Pacific, with linkup set for 3 41 p m EDT. The crew aims to test endurance and medical results for future long voyages.

Dollar Higher On European Markets Amid Central Bank Moves

The dollar closed higher on European markets led by central bank intervention. In Paris the dollar rose to 4.06 francs, Frankfurt moved to 2.3025 marks, and London gold fell to $117 an ounce.

Compromise Farm Bill Nears Final Edges

Senate conferees continued weekend talks on a compromise farm bill narrowing farmer income guarantees. Hilltop Cable Cut By Contractor Disrupts Service

Mike Castaldi, Hilltop General Telephone office manager, said an underground cable was accidentally cut by a local contractor around 3 p.m. Friday while digging for water lines on a vacant Warner Ave lot. About 150 customers lost service. crews continued repairs with restoration expected shortly after noon.

Part-Time Postal Positions Open at Logan Post Office

Applications for part-time clerk and carrier positions at the Logan Post Office are being accepted until August 4. Eligible applicants will be notified about the civil service test date, time, and location. Starting pay for part-time flexible positions is $4.87 per hour.
